Thésée village

Located along the Cher Valley tourist route, between Saint-Aignan and Montrichard, the wine-producing village of Thésée boasts a rich Gallo-Roman heritage.

Les Maselles gallo-Roman site

An impressive Gallo-Roman site lies along the Cher Valley tourist route: Les Maselles.

These imposing structures have long intrigued both visitors and specialists—antique dealers, archaeologists, historians… Each offers a theory (some more credible than others) about the role of these enigmatic buildings.

For today’s visitor, the Maselles are the most immediately visible remains of Tasciaca, the ancient name of Thésée. However, many of the largest remains lie underground or appear only a few centimetres above the surface.
Some have been excavated, such as the fanum in Pouillé, while others after being studied, have been reburied to ensure their preservation.

The Archaeological Museum

Using artefacts unearthed during archaeological excavations between 1960 and 1982, as well as objects discovered in the villages of Thésée, Pouillé, and Monthou, the archaeological museum presents various aspects of daily life and activity in Tasciaca. It also sheds light on the reasons behind the site’s prosperity in the early centuries of the Common Era.

The park in Vaulx Saint-Georges

The gardens of the town hall (19th century building) are home to majestic trees, such as redwoods, a cedar of Lebanon, the tulip tree, the trio of purple beeches and even Laricio pines as well as a dozen different varieties of wild orchids.

The park is the starting point for three hiking trails.
